45 fodder scam accused convicted, rigorous imprisonment for 14Ranchi, Apr 24 : A special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Friday convicted 45 accused and sentenced 14 of them to three years rigorous imprisonment in connection with the fodder scam case of early 1990's.

The court also slapped fines between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. five lakh on the 14 accused.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and the then Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad is also one of the accused in the Rs. 900 crore-scam.

Naxals attack Jharkhand CRPF camp, encounter still onRanchi, Apr 23 : A few hours before polling for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections began today, Naxals struck a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp and blew up a railway station in Jharkhand.

According to police, the Naxals attacked the CRPF camp in West Singhbhum District.

The gunbattle between the militants and the security personnel is still on, official sources informed.

Maithon Power Limited is a Joint Venture Company of Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).

 Abducted polling officials rescued after night-long gunbattleLatehar (Jharkhand), Apr 17 : The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday rescued six abducted polling officials after an overnight gunbattle with the guerrillas.

The officials, including two state police constables, were kidnapped on Thursday from Kumanuli village.

According to officials, naxals kidnapped the polling officials when they were on their way to their respective polling stations.

Naxals Ranchi, Bhubaneshwar/Patna/ Raipur/Mumbai, Apr 16 : A further four Naxal-related attacks have surfaced in five states - Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, adding to the ten already reported earlier in the day.

News reports said Naxals had exploded a landmine in Jamui District, attacked polling booths in Rajanandgaon District in Maharashtra in which five persons have died, attacked a polling party in Bast and were engaged in an encounter with paramilitaries in the Koriari Forests of Bihar. All of these attacks disrupted the first phase of the five-phased general elections on Thursday.
