Ludhiana bridegroom gets a “virgin” mare alongwith the bride

Ludhiana, Dec.27: Having failed to rent a wedding horse for his brother’s marriage that suits his prestige, a non-resident Indian recently bought him a mare as a wedding present!

On the wedding day, the bridegroom is supposed to come to the bride’s place riding a mare in north India. He is accompanied by relatives and friends who come dancing all the way.

Makhan Singh, who returned from New York to Punjab to get his younger brother married, bought him a mare of Arabian breed. The special gift cost him rupees two lakh.

"I just wanted a brand new horse and we are now training it for the big day. I bought it for rupees two lakhs (4,956 dollars)," said Makhan Singh Grewal, who has christened the two-and-a-half-year old mare as “Noori”.

"My husband is very fond of these horses and on the occasion of the marriage of my younger brother-in-law. We thought of gifting him something unique and bought it. We have taken special care of the horse. We wish to keep the horse even after the wedding," said Parminder Kaur, wife of Makhan Singh.

The special gift cheered everyone in the family.

"I wanted to have something which nobody had. My wish has been fulfilled at last as I would be riding a brand new horse. I am thankful to my brother and happy that my brother's wishes and mine have been fulfilled," said Kewal Singh, the bridegroom to be.

The mare was said to have never been used for any wedding occasion. And, Kewal Singh said it would remain a memorable event in his life thinking how special gift he bought from his loved ones for his wedding day.

It is a wedding season and renting a horse for marriage is really difficult. (ANI)
