Auto major Maruti Suzuki India has announced indefinite lockout for its Manesar plant after the Wednesday's violence. The company has asked for quick resolution of the police probe. The police has not been able to catch the union leaders, many of whom are on the run. In the violence, a senior HR official was killed.
The company has declined the speculation that it will completely close operations at Manesar once the facility in Gujarat is ready.
The company has also announced that it will not import cars. The automotive sector is undergoing tough time already and the inventory is piling up. Major car makers are offering discounts to reduce the inventory levels. Maruti manufactures Maruti Swift, SX4, A Star and Swift Dzire at Manesar plant.
Maruti has earlier reported that the company will face a loss of nearly Rs 60 crore per day. This is the first time that the production has been stalled at Manesar facility. With Maruti going in for a lockout, the pressure will mount on the police investigation team to catch the union leaders.
