Killer Bee Population Increases 20 to 30 Times the Normal Bee Population
Experts said that ever since Africanized honey bees arrived in the United States in 1990, they have almost wiped out their European counterparts. These killer bees are called the most aggressive honey bees in the world.
Reed Booth, a Bisbee-based bee removal expert said in a statement that these honey bees might appear small in size but they are among the most furious bees on earth. They don't care about anything and just attack whatever comes in their way.
During a large-scale removal several years ago, Booth was covered from head to toe in killer bees. He would have died, had firefighters standing by not sprayed the bees off.
Known professionally as the Killer Bee Guy, Booth has also been featured on National Geographic, The History Channel and news outlets across the nation.
In addition, an 84-year-old Oro Valley man who got the stung at least 2,000 times last month died last week after killer bee attack.
Some experts have cautioned that the killer bee problem is two to three times worse this year as the killer bee population and colonies have tremendously increased. Booth said the situation is far worse than what has been thought.
Booth stated that the situation is not just two to three times worse. The bee population has increased nearly 20 to 30 times the normal number of bees.
Not only are there more bees and more hives, but Booth said he is also seeing behaviors never seen before.
Booth said if threatened, killer bees release a pheromone that tells the entire hive to attack, and now this is happening at a much higher frequency.
