Kannur District has been a hotbed of political violence between the CPI-M and the BJP-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh combine.

The current bout of violence started when an RSS leader was attacked in Thalassery town March on 12. Three people lost their lives in a retaliatory attack by RSS and BJP activists.

The BJP has demanded the exit of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government in Kerala in the wake of a Kerala High Court order to deploy central forces to prevent political clashes in Kannur District. The Left parties have objected to this demand strongly. Clashes between BJP and CPI (M) have so far resulted in the death of seven people. (ANI)
