Kamal Nath to inaugurate Kimberley process meeting on Nov 3
New Delhi, Oct 30 : Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath will inaugurate the Plenary Meeting of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) here on November 3.
The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme is an international certification scheme that regulates trade in rough diamonds. It aims to prevent the flow of conflict diamonds, while helping to protect legitimate trade in rough diamonds.
KPCS currently has 48 member representing 74 countries, with the European Community and its member states counting as an individual participant.
India is one of the founding members of the scheme. In addition, the World Diamond Council, representing diamond industry, and civil society organizations including the Global Witness, Partnership-Africa Canada also participate in the meeting.
Chair of KPCS rotates annually between the participant nations. Kimberley Process Chair oversees the implementation of the scheme, operations of the Working Groups and Committees and general administration of the scheme. (ANI)
