The pope’s opinions on climate change seem to be offending certain senators, who believe it to be an intrusion in their domain of work. This Thursday, it troubled Sen. James Inhofe who argued that the pope should abstain from voicing his point of view on climate change.

A climate change skeptic, Inhofe asserted, “The pope ought to stay with his job, and we’ll stay with ours”. Inhofe, who chairs the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, made these comments in a keynote address at a climate change conference hosted by the Heartland Institute on Thursday.

Pope Francis voiced his opinion in January when His Holiness told reporters that he believes climate change is mostly caused by human activity. Pope emphatically stressed, “I don't know if it is the only cause, but mostly, in great part, it is man who has slapped nature in the face”.

Inhofe, a stern skeptic, has been long criticizing scientists’ findings on climate change and his February statement made heads turn when he argued on the Senate floor that climate change is not real!

Inhofe has also authored a book called ‘The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future’.

The Pope has invited wrath for his comments by other politician as well, when last month the Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum stated on a radio show that the church is not as forceful and credible when we get involved with political and controversial scientific theories.

Santorum asserted that the church has gotten it wrong a few times on science, and so it is better off to leave science to the scientists and the church should focus on what it’s really good at which is theology and morality.
