Tokyo - Industrial output in Japan rose by a seasonally adjusted 1.4 per cent in September compared to the previous month, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Thursday.

It was the seventh month in a row in which industrial output rose in the world's second largest economy.

Transport equipment, electronic parts and electrical machinery were responsible for the increase, the ministry said.

The rise was smaller than in previous months but was still above the expectations of many economists.

The government said it expected the trend to continue, with official statisticians predicting rises in output of 3.1 per cent in October and 1.9 per cent in November. (dpa)
