Industry's First 2 TeraByte Hard Drives launched by Western Digital
The maiden 2 terabyte (TB) hard drive was today announced by WD. As per industry experts, this hard drive is the world's highest capacity drive and the newest member of WD's well-liked, environmentally friendly, cool and quiet, WD CAviar Green hard drive family.
It should be noted here that the latest 3.5-inch platform is based on WD's industry-leading 500 GB/platter technology (with 400 Gb/in2 areal density) with 32 MB cache, producing drives with capacities of up to 2 TB.
Consumers are buying drives with higher storage capacity as their media storage requirements are rising. The 2 TB hard drives will offer them even better options to manage their data, media files and videos.
Basically, external storage solutions are an ordinary place for extreme-capacity drives that helps the consumers to deal with these media libraries. The one of the first applications of the new WD Caviar Green 2 TB drive family is the WD's My Book family.
In the company's recent history with its third-generation GreenPower technology, now providing 2 TB of proven reliable storage for today's high-resolution files and graphics, WD Caviar Green is one of the most successful product lines. The basic aim behind designing WD Caviar Green drives is for utilization in USB/FireWire/eSATA external hard drives, desktop computers, workstations, and desktop RAID environments.
Didier Trassaert, Senior Director Western Digital, EMEA Branded Products said, "Saving power without sacrificing storage capacity is what consumers want, and what many businesses are requiring today. With the launch of the new WD Caviar Green 2 TB hard drive, customers receive the additional capacities needed to operate today's highly advanced programs and high-resolution digital files while using less power than typical drives with similar speeds and capacities."
The interested consumers can avail the WD Caviar Green 2 TB via the select resellers and distributors later this month at a price of $299.00 USD.
