Indians involved in US missile technology smuggling

Washington, Mar 15: Indians involved in US missile technology smugglingAn employee of the Indian Embassy employee in Washington is alleged to have obtained secret weapon technology from US companies with the help of an Indian businessman, according to the US Justice Department.

They tried to smuggle to India, which included microprocessors and electronic components used in the development of ballistic missiles, space launch vehicles and fighter jets.

Businessman Parthasarathy Sudarshan admitted to his involvement in the scan federal court here.

Sudarshan pleaded guilty to violating US export-control laws imposed after India tested a nuclear weapon in May 1998.

The Indian Embassy has refused to comment on the case or the documents released by the US Government.

Justice Department, US Attorney Jeffrey A. Taylor declared, “Sudarshan participated in a clandestine network that breached our export laws and put sophisticated technology in the hands of foreign companies that were listed as end-users of concern for proliferation reasons.”

Sudarshan, 47, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, is the chief executive of Cirrus Electronics, which has offices in Simpsonville, Singapore and Bangalore in India.

The recipients of his illegal exports were the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and Bharat Dynamics Ltd, which is associated with the Indian Ministry of Defence. Both enterprises are on the US Department of Commerce’s Entity List, which restricts exports of US technologies to these companies. (ANI)
