Indian security is under control: Sriprakash JaiswalNew Delhi, Mar 12 : Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sriprakash Jaiswal, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha mentioned today that the overall security in the country is under control.

He informed, “Although there is some violence and militancy in some parts of the country, the overall situation has remained largely under control.

There has been a significant improvement in the Jammu and Kashmir situation.

The situation has improved considerably in States like Tripura and Meghalaya, while coordinated measures are being taken to check and control the activities of militant groups in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

In Naxal-affected areas, he said the overall level of extremist violence has remained at a similar level as in the last few years. Barring a few major incidents in some States like Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand other areas have shown improvement.

The Central Government he said, has urged the State Governments to take focussed and coordinated measures and provide all possible help to tackle terrorism.

Jaiswal said, close coordination is being maintained between Central and State agencies, including regular sharing of information and intelligence. As a result, a large number of terrorist modules have been busted and possible major terrorist incidents averted.

Institutional arrangements have also been put in place so that sharing and analysis of information and intelligence can be done on a continuous basis.

The State Governments have also been urged to strengthen the State police forces by filling up vacancies and improving the police- population ratio, he said.

He also said that the Police Modernisation Scheme is being implemented. Additionally, Central forces are being deployed to assist civil authorities in the States, he added. (ANI)
