ICC Releases Its Latest Ranking, Sachin Among The Top Twenty
The pride of the nation, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was rated among the top twenty test batsman by ICC, which released its latest rankings of players. Tendulkar overthrew Brian Lara’s record by scoring above his score of 11,953 runs.
In the test cricket being played in Mohali against the Aussies, Tendulkar plummeted to 24th position, his lowest in fifteen years but jumped to 19th rank during the second test match where he made 88 innings and 10 not out.
Player Gautam Gambhir score of 67 and 104 took him to the 29th position, up by 8 ranks. The captain of the team Mahendra Singh Dhoni got placed at 37th position moving seven ranks up. To be retired Sourav Ganguly scored his 100 moved to 23rd position while Virender Sehwag moved to tenth place.
Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman on the other hand lost ground by giving failed performances. Australian skipper Ricky Ponting scored only seven runs in the match, loosing its place to five, while Aussie Michael Hussey saw his ranking lower down to 3rd place from first.
West Indies Stalwart and ICC Cricketer of the Year Shivnarine Chanderpaul were placed on the top whereas Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka moved to second position.
New Zealand's Daniel Vettori's match-winning innings of 55 not out and 76 in two innings moved him to 31st rank in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong.
As far as bowlers are concerned, Harbhajan Singh made his mark in the top 10 list reigning over Zaheer Khan who lowered down to 12th and thus became India’s highest ranked bowler. The country’s bowler match statistics of 49-12-96-5 in Mohali made him climb over three positions taking over the ninth rank while Ishant Sharma was placed at 31st.
Amit Mishra, the 25 year old leg spinner opened his first account at number 50 after taking seven wickets in his first match against Australia. Mitchell Johnson, who gained three places moved to No 30 on the list whereas bowler Vettori in the first Test against Bangladesh where he took nine wickets, moved him seven places up to the 14th position.
