ICC President, CEO meet New Zealand Cricket board
Wellington, Apr. 2: ICC President David Morgan and Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat on Thursday met the board of New Zealand Cricket as part of their ongoing process of information sharing with Members.
The two-hour meeting in Wellington was the third of its kind for the pair, in the country as part of the ICC’s centenary celebrations, having caught up with the boards of Cricket Australia in Melbourne and Cricket South Africa in Johannesburg in February.
Reflecting on the gathering, Mr Morgan said: “I believe the meeting went very well. The board of New Zealand Cricket
(NZC) includes directors independent of the state associations and thinking from outside the game as well as from within is always a valuable tool in assessing the progress we are making.
“The purpose of these presentations is to outline the ICC’s objectives and the challenges facing the global body and, by extension, our Members. Equally importantly, it gives us a chance to hear from those Members, in this case NZC, about their goals and challenges and also how they see their relationship with the ICC.
“It is important that our stakeholders understand the challenges cricket and the ICC is facing at a global level so that we can work together to find the right way forward and collectively take the sport to the next level.
“Unless we interact in this way, we will never be able to achieve our common objectives, to make sure we have a great sport with a great spirit that continues to grow stronger.
“It was a thoroughly enjoyable meeting and I believe both groups parted with a better understanding of the workings of the other, the challenges each and the sport as a whole is facing and with an enhanced knowledge about each other’s issues.
“I believe these presentations and the feedback we receive from them is good for the ICC and more importantly it is good for the game of cricket. I’m extremely grateful to NZC Chairman Alan Isaac for allowing us the time to come together.”
NZC Chairman Alan Isaac said: “It was a real pleasure having David and Haroon here. Their openness and frankness about the issues that the cricket world is facing was very good and informative for our board.
“It was an excellent exercise from our prospective to ask questions, get their understanding of those issues and know how they are being addressed.
“It is essential that the cricket world stays united in facing some of the challenges that we have, from security to the opportunities around the development of the game, different formats of the game, and the excitement and the opportunities cricket provides to bring the world together in many ways.
“The ICC has a challenge because it is effectively a collection of Members. Those Members have different issues and they are trying to achieve different things. But that is not much different from any other representative body at the end of the day.” *(ANI)
