Hoard of 25,000 spiders hits Australian town

A small town in Australia has been taken over by more than 25,000 venomous spiders. The town Maningrida, which is 300 miles east of Darwin, is engulfed by the creatures and the reason is still unknown to some experts.

These creatures can dive underwater in bubbles that they create. They also burrow into the ground a web tunnel, so as to kill their prey in ambush.

It has been was discovered that their bite is venomous as a bitten resident suffered six to eight hours of vomiting. However, according to arachnologist Dr. Robert Raven, tarantulas are not life-threatening.

He was not concerned about the venom but was instead worried about the bite itself. He said that the bite of these creatures is not a shallow bite. Long fangs can potentially do damage by ripping tissue.

The vomit-inducing venom and tissue-tearing fangs make the tarantulas a dreadful opponent for the town. Residents hope the arachnids will leave quickly after a natural predator arrives.

The diving tarantula was only discovered in 2006. The spider’s full potential as a medical resource has not yet been realized.

Dr. Raven has taken a keen interest in the emergence of the newly discovered tarantula. He believes that the mass number of the arachnids might prove helpful in medical research.

He wants to learn more about their origins and has decided to search out some younger researchers to head up the investigation and report their findings.
