Health officials examined 10,000 school students for H1N1
A team of Satara district health officials screened ten thousand students, aged between four and 15 years, for the H1N1 virus on Wednesday. These students were from different schools in Panchgani.
Only two students were suspected of carrying the virus; these students have been put under observation.
Satara DHO, Vijaysinh Mohite said: "We have screened students from 36 of the total 46 schools in Panchgani, but only two suspected cases were found. Since Monday, no new cases have been found."
All schools in the hill station - including public, private, municipal and zilla parishad schools, which have been visited by health officials - are functioning normally now.
As per the instructions from the district health officer (DHO), the reported cases of the H1N1 flu have been advised to stay at home till Monday.
All the private doctors, out patient departments and the primary health care centres, have been alerted about the situation; and they have been instructed to inform the district health department in case they receive any suspected cases of the H1N1 flu from localities.
Mohite said no new cases were found on Wednesday at the boarding school, where 10 students had earlier been diagnosed with the H1N1 flu. However, four students of the school have been quarantined since Monday, and their samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.
