Guwahati students rally against serial blasts

Guwahati students rally against serial blastsGuwahati, Nov 12: Hundreds of students took to streets here on Tuesday to protest against the recent serial blasts in the state that killed over 80 people and left over 300 injured.

The protest was organised under the aegis of the All Assam Students Union (AASU).

The students, holding banners and placards marched down the streets of the city, which was recently rocked by serial blasts.

Blaming the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh for the blasts, the protesters said, they wanted to put pressure to make the government to take action against militants.

“To put pressure on the government to evict the terrorist from Assam and to give security to the lives and property of the people of Assam, we have launched strongest protest in streets of Guwahati," said Sammujal Bhattacharya, advisor, AASU, and president, North East Students'' Organisation.

Twelve high intensity serial blasts rocked Guwahati and some other cities of Assam.

The first explosions took place near the Ganeshguri flyover near the high-security capital complex housing the Assembly building, followed by explosions at Paltan Bazar and Fancy Bazar in Guwahati.

Around the same time, bombs also went off in crowded market places of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta in lower Assam.

Indian Mujahideen, a frontal organisation of HUJI and Lashkar - e Toiba - has claimed responsibility for Assam serial blasts. It made the claim in an SMS sent to a local TV channel. (ANI)
