MILWAUKEE, Dec. 3  -- Former Wisconsin football player Leonard Taylor has been charged with threatening his former coach, Barry Alvarez, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.

The newspaper also reported this week that Taylor Jr., 32, of Indianapolis, threatened women's tennis star, Maria Sharapova.

He faces one felony stalking count and one misdemeanor count of telephone harassment involving Alvarez.

"I'll kill you first, mother (expletive)," Taylor allegedly said, the newspaper reported. "I've got 24 (expletive) hours, mother (expletive). I'm coming for your (expletives). You might have a (expletive) war."

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Dec. 3  -- Notre Dame officials said Wednesday that Fighting Irish Coach Charlie Weis would return for a fifth season to lead the school's football team.

Notre Dame is 28-21 in four seasons under Weis, including 3-9 in 2007 and 6-6 in 2008. This season ended with a home loss to Syracuse and a rout by Southern Cal. The two-year record of 9-15 is the worst in school history.

"Though this past season fell short of the expectations that all of us have for our football program, I am confident that Charlie has a strong foundation in place for future success and that the best course of action is to move forward under his leadership," Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said in a statement.

NEW YORK, Dec. 3  -- Rookie Houston Texans running back Steve Slaton is the AFC's offensive player of the week.

He earned his first player of the week honor after scoring two touchdowns on 21 carries for 130 rushing yards Monday night in Houston's 30-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Slaton is the first rookie to win AFC offensive player of the week in franchise history, and the effort helped him surpass Domanick Williams for most touchdowns by a Texans' rookie.

Also earning AFC honors were Indianapolis end Robert Mathis (defense) and Kansas City cornerback Maurice Leggett (special teams).

Hamburg - Olympic television broadcasts from 2014 onwards could be aired by private networks in Europe instead of the state-run stations which covered the Games for the last 50 years, a German television executive said on Wednesday.

Dieter Gruschwitz, the head of sports at the ZDF state network, said that such a scenario was not out of the question after the International Olympic Committee rejected an offer from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for the 2014 and 2016 Games.

Madrid - Klaas Jan Huntelaar flew into Madrid on Wednesday to sign for Spanish football champions Real Madrid.

The Dutch striker was due to undergo medical tests later in the day, particularly on the right ankle that has kept him out of action fror the past month.

Huntelaar told the media at Barajas airport that his injury was "coming along well."

The international forward added that it was "a dream come true" for him to sign for Real, who have paid 20 million euros (25.30 million dollars) to Ajax of Amsterdam for him.
