UK’s first keyhole surgery to replace worn out heart valve completedLondon, April 6 : Surgeons at King''s College Hospital in London have for the first time in Britain achieved a breakthrough in replacing a worn out prosthetic heart valve with a new one via keyhole surgery through the chest.

The operation was performed on George Bott, 78, from south London, last month.

Bott had his first artificial heart valve fitted in 2002, but it began to fail last year and started to cause breathlessness and fainting.

Two more German students die from drinking tainted alcohol

Luebeck, Germany  - Two more German students died from drinking tainted alcohol during a holiday in Turkey, bringing the death toll to three, doctors confirmed Monday.

The 17- and 19-year-old students were pronounced clinically dead late on Saturday, doctors at the University Clinic in the north German city of Luebeck said.

The two vocational college students were flown home on Thursday evening and taken to the hospital's intensive care unit near their homes, where doctors battled to save their lives.

A hospital official said the case had been taken over by the Luebeck prosecutor's department because the two young men died an unnatural death.

Singapore woman dies after suffering food poisoning

Singapore woman dies after suffering food poisoningSingapore  - A 57-year-old Singapore woman who went into a coma after suffering food poisoning from eating at a local food stall last week died on Monday morning in hospital, reported the Straits Times.

Aminah Samijo suffered acute renal failure when the food poisoning infection entered her kidneys, sending her into a coma. She also had low blood pressure.

Aminah had eaten Rojak, a deep-fried meat and vegetable dish, at a local hawker stall.
