London, Jan 23: A little hen shocked pupils at a British school when she laid eggs as big as grapefruits.

A Columbian blacktailed cross, known as Little Lil, lives with three other pet chickens Auntie Madge, Auntie Edie, Auntie Doreen at the Raikes Centre pupil referral unit in Gloucester.

Teacher Kate Farminer, 54, is at loss of words.

"We've got four pet chickens here and Little Lil is by far the smallest and also the quietest," the Daily Express quoted Farminer as saying.

Allahabad, Jan 23 : Allahabad police had recovered thousands of baby turtles and adult tortoises from gunny bags found in a truck.

Three persons were detained on charges of smuggling these animals.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Jain said further investigations are on to nab the kingpin of this racket.

"A Special Operational Group (SOG) team and a Tharwai Police Station team jointly seized five and half to six tonnes of live tortoises. They were being smuggled out from Etah," claimed Jain.

Manila  - A police officer was killed Friday when communist rebels attacked a town police station in the southern Philippines, a police report said.

The report said about 50 heavily armed communist rebels swooped down on the police station in Carmen town in Agusan del Norte province, 795 kilometres south of Manila.

The rebels outnumbered the police officers in the station and shot one of the police officers in the head.

Singapore - A 14-year prison sentence was upheld against a 37-year-old Singaporean with an urge to sniff and suck the armpits of women he molested, a newspaper reported Friday.

Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong called Mohammed Ismail Arifin a "big risk to society - not only to the adults but also the young girls" and upheld the prison term imposed in June by a district court on 10 charges, the Straits Times said.

But Chan reduced Mohammed Ismail's caning sentence to 12 strokes from 18 because, Chan said, he did no real violence to his victims.
