London, April 26 : Having a bad teacher in the reception year can harm a child's entire education, according to a new study.

Researchers at Durham University found that the effect of having an exceptionally poor - or an unusually good - teacher in the first year at primary school was still detectable six years later.

Washington, Apr 26 : Middle-class parents can have an impact on urban education, but whether it is beneficial or sustainable that depends on the attitude of parents themselves, according to a new Temple University study.

Owing to the current economical scenario, more middle-class families are passing on private schools in favour of the local public school. Various educational studies claim that the move should be welcomed by urban school districts in particular.

Studies show urban schools benefit educationally from an influx of middle class students and parents because of the resources (most notably time and money) that accompany them.

Aptly titled "Why Don''t Students like School?" the book by Daniel Willingham, a University of Virginia cognitive psychologist explains how the mind works - and what it means for the classroom.

Kuala Lumpur, Apr 25: While most ladies take their time in tying their saris, Indian man Rakesh Nair has mastered the task of doing in it in a jiffy.

For Nair, 40, who has become a specialist at the task, tying a sari was something he learned during his stint in the movie industry in Chennai, at the AVM Studios, back in the 1990s.

"I was impressed with how the men at the studios dressed the actresses. They could tie saris in a jiffy," the New Strait Times Online quoted him as saying.

Lucknow, Apr 25 : Two people were killed and ten school children injured when a bus in which they were travelling collided with another bus on Faizabad road this morning.

According to police, the accident occurred when the bus carrying students of the La Martiniere School collided with the public roadways bus.

One of the children and the driver of the school bus died on the spot,

The injured are undergoing treatment at the Lohia Hospital. Of the ten injured children, the condition of one was stated to be critical.

London, Apr 25 : A 12-year-old British girl gave birth to a baby boy on April 24.

The minor mum got pregnant after a one-night stand with an older lad, who is not her boyfriend.

The white girl belongs to a broken home and lives in a deprived part of the South West.

The young mum was not even aware that she was expecting, and was taken to hospital suffering stomach pains and feeling "under the weather".

"It was a shock. She had been feeling unwell for a while, fainting. We took her to hospital for tests, and she gave birth," The Sun quoted a family friend as saying.
