Arsenal still confident of signing Arshavin

ArsenalLondon - Arsenal remained hopeful of signing forward Andrei Arshavin on Monday evening, despite claims from the selling club Zenit St Petersburg that the deal was off.

The saga has been the most protracted of the transfer window, but sources within Arsenal insist all the necessary paperwork was filed before the transfer deadline.

Even an hour and a half after the 5pm deadline, though, there was no official confirmation that the Russia international has completed his move.

Mutu's brace sinks BolognaRome  - Adrian Mutu scored a brace Monday as Fiorentina won 3-1 away to Bologna in a Serie A game called off Sunday due to heavy snowfall.

Bologna's defence was in trouble on six minutes as both captain Claudio Terzi and goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli failed to intervene allowing the Romanian to connect with Riccardo Montolivo's long feed and volley home from few metres off.

Ten minutes later, Montolivo again split the defence and sent away the striker, who came face to face with Antonioli and beat him to notch his 101st goal with Italian sides.

Wigan sign midfielder N'Zogbia

Charles N'ZogbiaLondon  - Wigan Athletic completed the signing of midfielder Charles N'Zogbia from Newcastle United on Monday.

The turbulent 22-year-old moves in a part swap with Wigan midfielder Ryan Taylor, for an undisclosed fee believed to be a Wigan record.

N'Zogbia, who has had a troubled time of late on Tyneside, vowed never to play for the club again after manager Joe Kinnear called him "Insomnia" in a television interview.

Wigan boss Steve Bruce told the club's website: "I think this boy can be a really good player for us.
