Textile industry slumps Tamil Nadu

Tamil NaduCoimbatore, Nov 26 : The capacity utilization of the textile industry in Tamil Nadu, hit by the ongoing slump in the demand in international markets and the acute power shortage, has dropped by 72 percent.

With an investment of almost 50 billion rupees, the textile industry in the state is in a dismal state.

Philippines wants international peacekeepers to extend stay

Manila - The Philippines has asked Malaysia, Brunei, Libya and Japan to extend the stay of their peacekeeping forces in the strife-torn southern region of Mindanao, an official said Wednesday.

Hermogenes Esperon, presidential adviser on the peace process, said the presence of the 30-member international monitoring team (IMT) in Mindanao has helped implement a five-year ceasefire with the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Esperon added that the team's continued presence was needed to ensure that hostilities between the military and rebels do not escalate further.

Opposition PAD takes over Bangkok airport air traffic control tower

Bangkok, Nov. 26 : About 30 People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) guards wearing masks on Wednesday took control of Suvarnabhumi Airport’s air traffic control tower to check the daily flight schedule.

PAD security head Samdin Lertbutr together with a group of guards entered the air traffic control tower and negotiated with the airport officials.

According to the Bangkok Post, the The group said they wanted to make sure that no flights will leave or enter Suvarnabhumi while checking whether Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat’s flight would arrive at the airport.

Archaeologists uncover 2,700 historic features along Hadrian’s Wall in England

London, Nov 26 : A team of archaeologists has uncovered 2,700 previously unrecorded historic features along the length of Hadrian’s Wall in England, by studying thousands of aerial pictures.

Hadrian’s Wall, in northern England, is a World Heritage Site, built during the rule of the Roman Empire.

According to a report by BBC News, the experts from ‘The English Heritage’ found ancient burial mounds, medieval sheep farms and 19th Century lead mines, among other findings.

For their research, the team was working from more than 30,500 pictures taken during the past 60 years as part of a push to map and interpret archaeological sites across England.
