Kuala Lumpur  - Malaysian customs authorities detained an Indian national attempting to smuggle in 14.84 kilograms of the drug ketamine at an airport in the northern Penang state, a news report said Saturday.

The suspect, aged in his 50s, had stuffed the drugs into three stainless steel food containers, said state customs director Matrang Suhaili.

Zamboanga City, Philippines  - One soldier was killed and five were injured in a botched attempt to rescue a kidnapping victim in the southern Philippines, a regional military spokeswoman said Friday.

The fighting erupted Thursday when troops conducting an operation to rescue a kidnapped employee of a lending firm encountered Muslim separatist rebels in Sumisip town in Basilan province, 900 kilometres south of Manila, Lieutenant Esteffani Cacho said.

Athens  - Pirates seized a Greek-owned cargo ship off the coast of Somalia late Thursday, Greece's merchant marine ministry said.

The Saint-Vincent-flagged cargo ship Titan, with 24 crew, was loaded with steel and was reportedly sailing from the Black Sea when pirates seized the ship off Somalia.

Three of the crew are of Greek nationality, officials said.

Kuala Lumpur  - Malaysian airport police have detained an Indian national after they found 46 bags of the drug ketamine hidden inside a television set, a news report said Thursday.

The 32-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after customs officers at Kuching International Airport in Malaysia's eastern state of Sarawak discovered drugs during a routine inspection, department director Rusmani Abdul Sukur said.

London, Mar 19: A British doctor of Indian origin has been charged for allegedly giving unnecessary intimate examinations, smacking patients on the bottom and questioning them about their favourite sexual positions.

Dr. Rajinder Aggarwal, 54, stands accused of four charges of sexual touching of women between December 2006 and January 2007. Four women, aged between 26 and 53, have lodged complaints against him, The Sun reports.
