Firefighters battling with blazes in south of Big Bear Lake
According to fire officials, an estimated $6.9 million has been spent so far to fight a more than 17,000-acre fire burning south of Big Bear Lake.
According to a joint news release from the U. S. Forest Service, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Cal Fire and Southern California Interagency Incident Management, the Lake Fire had spread to 17,405 acres and was 24% contained as of 8 pm Monday.
Five hundred structures, consisting of many cabins, were under threat since flames were spreading across the San Bernardino Mountains.
It was reported that three injuries occurred as a result of blaze. With the help of 118 engines, 17 helicopters, 16 water tenders, eight airtankers and guide planes and five dozers and over 1,900 personnel, the blaze has been controlled by a large extent.
As per officials, the fire line is 'well-established' next to Highway 38, which is closed to the public. However, according to them, lower temperatures on Monday helped control the fire and most of the activity took place in the northeast fire boundary, but hotspots remained on the southern perimeter.
