Fasting has many benefits

Health experts have been talking about benefits and apparent dangers of fasting for hundreds of years. Now, a recent study says that fasting might be helpful if it is done in a right way and under medical supervision.

As per Dr. Michael Mosley, the author of the The Fast Diet book series, "Studies of intermittent fasting show that not only do people see improvements in blood pressure and their cholesterol levels, but also in their insulin sensitivity".

Dr. Razeen Mahroof, with the University of Oxford, said a detoxification process also takes place during fasting, since any toxins stored in the body's fat are dissolved and removed from the body. Mahroof said the body starts producing higher levels of endorphins in the blood after a few days of fasting.

Those people who have always found intermittent fasting beneficial and who want to lose weight, fasting also helps reduce lowers blood pressure, cholesterol and slows down the aging process.

As per Dr. Valter Longo of the University of Southern California, LA, who is lead author of a study on fasting published in the Cell Stem Cell, starving helps body save energy and recycle extra and damaged immune cells.

When it comes to Fast Mimicking Diet, people eat for 25 days within any specific month and then consume 1090 calories within a day i. e. 34% carbohydrates, 10% protein and 56% fat.

Such an individual can consume approximately 725 calories that are broken down into 47% carbohydrates, 9% protein and 44% fat for another four days.
