Explanation demanded by PCB for defeat by Sri Lanka

Explanation demanded by PCB for defeat by Sri LankaA detailed report has been demanded by Pakistan cricket authorities from Captain Shoaib Malik and Coach Intikhab Alam regarding their team's loss against Sri Lanka in the recent one-day series.

The biggest one day defeat was faced by Pakistan as the team was beaten by Sri Lanka by 234 runs in the third day-night international at Lahore on Saturday. Sri Lanka had a 2-1 win in the three-match series.

The first match was however won by Pakistan by eight wickets in Karachi before losing the second by 129 runs, also in Karachi.

Following the defeat, a detailed report on the reasons for the defeat was demanded by Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt, who took over as chairman last October.

Mr. Butt said, "I have instructed Coach Intikhab Alam and manager Yawar Saeed to give a detailed report on the defeat in the next few days so that we can find out what happened."

Alm, Malik and chief selector Abdul Qadir have also been summoned by a Senate standing committee on sports for a hearing in Islamabad on 9th February.

A surprised Butt reported, "I am also surprised at the way our batsmen played but I can't make any further comment until receiving a detailed report."

Next month, two home Test matches against Sri Lanka would be played by Pakistan, before the team travels to Bangladesh for five one-day matches in March.
