Exceptional "fire rainbow" lights up South Carolina sky

According to reports, an exceptional multi-colored cloud formation was observed by locals in close proximity to the coast in South Carolina. Some viewers called it a "multi-colored angel hovering overhead".

According to reports, on Sunday, the beautiful fire rainbow was captured on camera in the skies over South Carolina, and the views of the event are stunning. The halo-forming cloud is called a circumhorizontal arc. The view appears only under a certain set of conditions and takes place only in high-level cirrus clouds that are thin and wispy. These clouds are composed of tiny ice crystals. Meteorologist Justin Lock gave the information to the local news station 14 News.

According to Mr Lock, "To produce the rainbow colours the sun's rays must enter the ice crystals at a precise angle to give the prism effect of the colour spectrum". He also said that the sun is required to be at a minimum of 58 degrees above the horizon.

Reports say the unbelievable cloud formation was seen by locals in the region, who were stunned after seeing the view. Tracey Smith observed it over a beach in the Isle of Palms. Smith said that it lasted for nearly an hour.

As per experts, rainbows are multi-colored arcs that are formed from the reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets. They can be observed in places where water droplets are present in the air. Earlier, people had hardly heard of the phenomenon.
