Drive For Kidney Disease Awareness On March 12

Hyderabad To Celebrate World Kidney Day On March 12Kidney disease is a major health problem in the world. It has been on the rise in India and many other countries. So, there is a need to start a global health awareness campaign that will mainly focus on the importance of kidneys, and helps in lessening the occurrence and impact of kidney disease and its related health troubles globally.

With the intention to fulfill this objective, a major initiative, which will spread awareness regarding chronic kidney disease and importance of early detection, has been planned by nephrologists in Hyderabad on March 12 to mark the World Kidney Day (WKD).

Dr. A. Gopala Kishan, president of Indian Society of Organ Transplantation, said that approximately 400 to 600 million people were suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) globally, and an alarming message should get to people that if the illness went unobserved and untreated, it could cause kidney failure demanding dialysis or kidney transplantation.

While addressing a press meet together with Dr. Krishnan, Secretary, A.P. Government Nephrology Forum, Dr. Gopala Kishan told that screening tests were vital as signs or symptoms of kidney disease do not appear until the disease is advanced.

A walk from Charminar to Osmania General Hospital by medical fraternity and people from different divisions accompanied by free screening camps in government and corporate hospitals with nephrology wings and a public meeting in the evening were planned for the day.

Those who are interested in attending screening camps should get their names registered in advance at Osmania, Gandhi, NIMS, Apollo, Yashoda, Medwin, Medicity, Kamineni hospitals.
