Dorothy Height passes away at the age of 98Dorothy Height, the leader of the National Council of Negro for 40 years and advocate for gender equality and the integration of the US armed forces passed away. She died of natural causes at a hospital in Washington.

The American president Mr. Barack Obama has said in his condolence note that Height is the godmother of civil rights movement and a true idol for Americans.

He has also said that Dr. Height has dedicated her whole life in struggle to provide equal opportunity to all section of the society.

She was the only woman who has sacrificed her life for the welfare of the society. Moreover, she was the backbone of civil rights movement in the country.

Her dedication towards preventing lynching, desegregating the armed forces, the reform in criminal justice system and free access to public accommodation was admirable.

She has received two of the nation’s highest honors- the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994 and Congressional Gold medal in 2004. Ex President Mr. Geroge W. Bush has also conveyed his homage to the leading lady of civil rights movement of America.
