Wellington, Mar. 8 : Former Kiwi fast bowler Daryl Tuffey has snubbed a call from New Zealand Cricket bosses asking him to sit out of Auckland's State Championship match against Northern Districts because of his links with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).

According to stuff. com the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked New Zealand Cricket officials to ask Tuffey sit out of the game so as to adjust one of the Indian Test cricketers in the Auckland team. But Tuffey refused.

"I had a call from NZ Cricket, I can confirm that. They were relaying the situation they were in and what they had promised the Indian cricket board," Tuffey said.

Following the bizarre demand by NZ Cricket officials, the lanky pacer contacted New Zealand Cricket Players Association chief, Heath Mills, who ensured that Tuffey does not become a victim of strife between the ICL and the BCCI.

"Our position has always been that the ICL players have every right to ply their trade in this country and by law they are able to," Mills said.

"Their plan was to put one of the six Indian players into each domestic team and they wanted the two ICL players Tuffey and Hamish Marshall to stand aside. I told them that couldn''t happen," he added.

Disgruntled by NZ Cricket's top bosses over the issue, Mills charged the BCCI of forcing its decisions on other cricketing nations.

"Yes, we need to be mindful of our relationship with the Indians, but it doesn''t mean they run roughshod over everyone else," he said. (ANI)
