Construction Work of Thirty Meter Telescope to Resume from Wednesday

A lot has happened when it comes to construction of Thirty Meter Telescope atop the Big Island's Mauna Kea. Native Hawaiians have been protesting the project stating the area is a sacred land for them. On Wednesday, the construction work is set to resume. Native Hawaiians said that will try to stop the construction peacefully.

A number of people were present on the mountain in order to stop the resuming of the construction process of the telescope. Since April, no construction work has taken place at the site. In this entire issue, 31 protestors have been arrested till date.

For now, it is not known as to when the road access will be opened. Authorities concerned for the telescope said that they are planning to carry out an inspection at the site. Also, they are considering to install a fence around the construction zone.

Many protestors who were arrested Wednesday for blocking the way to the site have been released after posting $250 bail. These protestors again returned to Hawaii Mountain. Many protestors moved back, but as per University spokesman Dan Meisenzahl, many refused to move back.

The Office of Mauna Kea Management has worked with volunteers and other who have been demonstrating at the site to clear the road. There are 13 more telescopes present at Mauna Kea.
