A total of 14,000 people in the US who made use of Ford Credit to purchase their cars will be invited for the pilot program. Ford Motor Credit will be collaborating with two car-sharing companies, Getaround in the US and easyCar Club in London.

As per Ford, over the next five years, it is looking forward to increase research on advanced safety technology, together with automatic braking for its vehicle range. According to the company, “As most vehicles are parked and out of use much of the time, this can help us gauge our customers’ desires to pick up extra cash and keep their vehicles in use”.

It is known that Ford’s main business is to sell cars, but it also operates a number of other services. Its app-based GoDrive service already allows Brits to rent a car on a pay-as-you-go basis. Now, the company is asking its US and UK customers to rent their own vehicles out to other people and offset the money against their car payments.

The company is inviting approximately 12,000 Londoners and a further 14,000 US customers from Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, Portland, Chicago and Washington D.C. to join its new scheme.

In the United Kingdom, the company has joined hands with easyCar Club, a sister company of budget airline easyJet, to provide on-demand cars for younger drivers.

Ford Motor Co. has decided to cut around 700 jobs at its small-car factory in southeast Michigan. This factory was the auto maker's first major US manufacturing layoff since 2009 as Americans shunned smaller vehicles amid low gasoline prices.

The workers were notified on Thursday, regarding the workforce cuts at the plant, which builds Ford's compact Focus, as well as electric and hybrid models. By the end of the June, the layoffs will begin and the Dearborn, Mich., company said that it could reassign many of the employees.

The action has taken place months before Ford executives kicked off labor negotiations with the United Auto Workers union.

On the second try, a tiny Hot Wheels car completed a loop with a diameter of 3.81 meters successfully, beating the old record of 3.01m.

On Friday (NZ time), in the US, Blade and dad Matt West were cheered by a crowd of other Ford employees and their children at the automaker's Research and Innovation Centre in Dearborn, Michigan.

Ford FigoNew Delhi - Ford India on Monday launched a refreshed version of its compact car Ford Figo priced up to Rs Rs 6.09 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) ahead of the upcoming festival season.

The refreshed Ford Figo will be available at Rs 3.87 lakh to Rs 5.14 lakh for petrol variant and Rs 4.83 lakh to Rs 6.09 lakh (ex-Showroom Delhi) for the diesel option, the company said in a statement.

"With the refreshed look, we are adding even more style to the Figo, which is highly regarded as a reliable vehicle with an outstanding value-for-money proposition," Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) Vinay Piparsania said.

The new Fiesta will directly take on Honda City and Hyndai Verna and is priced Rs 67,000 to Rs 1.7 lakh lower than the competition, depending on the variant.

The 2014 Ford Fiesta will be available in three options ? Ambiente, Trend and Titanium, all powered by 1.5 litre diesel engine, the company said in a statement.

In a statement, the company said domestic sales stood at 6,053 units last month, up from 4,002 units sold in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Ford India not to launch eight new modelsChennai, March 21 - Despite a tough Indian market, Ford India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Ford Motor Company, is not revisiting its business plan of launching eight new models by 2015, said a senior official.

"We are on target with our plans. The Gujarat plant will be ready by the end of 2014 and the first model will roll out early 2015," Ford India president Nigel Harris told reporters here Thursday night.

When asked about Ford India's plans to roll out eight new models by 2015, he said: "No comments on the eight products."

Ford India logs 49 percent sales growth in JanChennai, Feb 1 : Ford India, a subsidiary of American auto major Ford Motor Company, last month logged 49 percent sales increase compared to the previous year's corresponding period, the company said Saturday.

In a statement Ford India said it sold 10,634 units (domestic 6.706 units, exports 3,928 units) last month, up from 7,115 units (domestic 6,062 units, exports 1,053 units) sold in Jan 2013.

According to Vinay Piparsania, executive director, marketing, sales and service, the company ushered in the New Year on a note of growth.

Ennore Port signs car export pact with Ford

Ennore Port LtdEnnore Port Ltd (EPL) has signed an agreement with the Indian division of U. S.-based auto giant Ford for export of cars through the port.

The agreement was signed by Ennore Port Chairman & Managing Director M A Baskarachar and Ford India Executive Director Tom Chackalackal in the presence of Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan on Tuesday.

Under the terms of the agreement, which is for a period of 10 years, Ennore Port will provide various volume-based discounts to the car maker to encourage more exports via its facility.

Ford's C-MAX Solar Energi Concept vehicle is the first-ever solar-powered hybrid, that will be able to "creep" back and forth a short distance to get the best exposure for its rooftop collection panels.

And those panels will get a powerful assist from a special energy concentrator device.

The C-MAX Solar Energi Concept will feature a rooftop solar panel array developed in partnership with SunPower Corp. of San Jose, California.

Ford unveils self-driving fusion hybrid research car

Ford-FusionWashington, Dec 13 : Ford has unveiled the Fusion Hybrid research vehicle which is capable of driving on its own by detecting the surroundings with its sensors.

A Ford official said that the company's goal is to test the limits of full automation and determine the appropriate levels for near- and mid-term deployment, the Verge reports.

The company said that most of the automation won't be deployed until after 2025, yet it intends to phase in pieces of it before that.

According to the report, the fusion vehicle includes four whirling, cylindrical Lidar detectors on its roof in addition to a 360-degree camera.

Ford to roll out four new models at each of its plants

Ford-Motor-CompanyChennai, Oct 8 : Out of its 14 new plants to be opened by 2015 across the world by the Ford Motor Company, two will be in India's Gujarat and four different models would toll out of each plant, the US based auto major said Tuesday.

In a statement Tuesday issued to mark the 100th anniversary of Ford's moving assembly line, Ford India, the Indian subsidiary, said its vehicle and engine assembly plants coming up in Gujarat will go on stream 2014.

According to the statement, Ford is rapidly expanding its advanced manufacturing capabilities and boosting global production to meet surging consumer demand.
