Cold War Brewing between US and Russia over Moon

Russian wants to investigate US moon landings in order to find out details of US moon landings between 1969 and 1972.

The investigation is being done to solve the mystery of the disappearance of film footage from the original moon landing in 1969.

Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the government's official Investigative Committee, penned a column for Russian newspaper Izvestia on Tuesday.

He argued there are number of other things that are worthy of an international investigation. These include the 1994 USA World Cup, war crimes in Eastern Ukraine and, the Apollo moon landings.

According to Markin, the disappearance of the original footage and 400kg of lunar rocks is suspicious. The rock is said to have been obtained during manned US moon landings.

Moscow Times wrote, "We are not contending that they did not fly and simply made a film about it. But all of these scientific or perhaps cultural artifacts are part of the legacy of humanity, and their disappearance without a trace is our common loss. An investigation will reveal what happened”.

In 2009, NASA admitted that it had erased the original video recordings of the first moon landing among 200,000 other tapes in order to save money.

However, the agency has since restored copies of the landing, using recordings from other sources such as CBS News. Due to restoration efforts, the recordings' quality is superior to the original one that has gone missing.

The bulk of the rock is stored in Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Texas, though samples can be seen on display in various museums around the world.
