Close to 200 firms turned up to IBM via MF in Q1
The giant maker of PC, IBM has stated that around 200 companies have turned up to IBM systems in the first quarter of 2010, through its Migration Factory transition tool.
This report of Excellency was followed by a report of decline, where the IT giant saw a downward slope in the sale of Unix based products. Although it still holds a commendable position yet the figures have come down.
It is believed that the decline in sales is due to fierce competition offered from HP and Oracle where the companies on one hand are using new applications on IBM's x64 servers but on the flip side purchasing old ones from costly RISC/Itanium Unix boxes.
However, the company stated that the Migration Factory's launch since 2007 has added 2,700 companies and more are being shifted to IBM servers, as the company continues to face the heat from HP and Oracle.
The improved performance acted as a booster which rose the overall revenue by 5 percent taking it to the mark of $22.9 billion. The net income grew by 13 per cent stopping at $2.6 billion and the aggregate of IBM's System and Technology Group soared by 5 percent, coming to $3.4 billion.
