China cautions Pakistan against rising extremism
Islamabad, Dec 14: China has cautioned Pakistan against the surge in extremism while expressing desire for the broad alliance of ‘liberal political forces’ to counter the grave threat.
The Special Envoy of the Chinese Government and Senior Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi met President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday.
"The Chinese envoy lauded Musharraf’s steps that he is taking for transition to democracy, " said an official on the condition of anonymity.
The official quoted Wang as saying that China fully supports Pakistan’s endeavours against the menace of terror while expressing desire that the liberal forces should be brought together to tackle the grave threat of extremism.
Wang said that as a friendly nation, China wanted Pakistan as a strong and stable state, according to the official.
A Foreign Office statement issued after the meeting between Musharraf and Chinese envoy said that Wang conveyed warm felicitations and greetings from President Hu Jintao and the Chinese leadership to Musharraf on his re-election.
He admired President’s leadership in pursuing policies, which have served the best interests of Pakistan and promoted regional peace and stability and were helpful to global community, The Nation quoted the statement, as saying.
Reaffirming strong support of the Chinese government and leaders for Musharraf’s leadership and his policies, Wang particularly mentioned Pakistan’s leading role and important contribution in the fight against terrorism and extremism and underscored the importance of continuing closer cooperation between the two countries to deal with this danger.
