Central Government to bring special marriage act for Sikhs

Sikh Marriage ActNew Delhi, Mar 10: Union Law and Justice Minister H R Bhardwaj on Monday said that the Central Government is planning to bring in a Special Marriage Act for the Sikhs.

Bhardwaj said, “the government has taken note of demands from various Sikh organisations and there should not be a problem in introducing such an act.

He said the government has no plans to make registration of Hindu marriages compulsory under the law, while answering a question.

“Supreme Court had directed that marriage of all persons should be registered compulsorily in their respective states and the "matter is being carefully examined in its full ramifications,” he added. (ANI)
