Case against Hazare supporters dropped in Dubai

Case against Hazare supporters dropped in Dubai Dubai, Oct 5 : The Dubai Public Prosecution has reportedly dropped the cases against five Indians who were arrested on charges of violating UAE national security laws after they organised a walk in support of anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare.

"All the charges against those five people have been dropped by the Public Prosecution as their intention was bonafide and they did not want to do anything against the state or disturb the peace here. Also, there were no charges against them in UAE or India and had no cirminal background," Gulfnews quoted their advocate Hashik T. K., as saying.

The Dubai Police had arrested the supporters on August 21 after they organised a walk at Al Mamzar Beach Park to express solidarity with Hazare''s agitation in India for the introduction of a strong anti-corruption law in India.

The supporters were arrested on charges of violating the UAE''s national security laws. Their bail was initially rejected on August 25 as the preliminary investigation had not been completed following which they spent nine more days in the jail while the courts were closed for the Eid holidays.

They were granted bail in the first week of September after the General Public Prosecution considered that the intention of the accused was only to express their support toward a good cause in their home country and not to violate the local laws. (ANI)
