BSNL To Roll Out 3G Services In All 760 Cities By 2011
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's objective to launch 3G services in around 760 cities will be attained by the existing financial year.
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Gopal Das made this declaration on Saturday.
While talking to media after a function on Rajiv Gandhi Salai in Padur, near Kelambakkam, on Saturday, Mr. Das stated that the pan-India attendance enjoyed by the state-owned telecommunications company had aided in smooth and trouble-free launch of 3G services in about 700 cities.
In the resting 60 cities, the 3G services would be introduced by the end of March 2011.
Previously, Mr. Das kicked off BSNL's novel broadband service provided via fibre-optic cables to the dwellers of 'Mantri' - a residential complex endorsed by Mantri Developers.
The novel broadband service - Fibre to the Home (FTTH) - makes use of fibre-optic cables plus optical electronics in place of copper wire and DSL equipment.
There were schemes to offer FTTH service to high-end clients in 127 cities across India.
The BSNL CMD also introduced Smart Payphone Card services in Chennai Telecom District (CTD), where the phone card could be utilized to make calls from specifically made PCO boxes.
Chief General Manager of BSNL Chennai Telephones, A. Subramanian stated that the launch of FTTH would help progress business viewpoints of the company in the Chennai area.
