BSNL Inks Pact With Realnetworks To Roll Out EmoticonSMS Service In India
Bharat Sanchar Nigam is looking to woo its Indian mobile users by introducing a new service called ‘EmoticonSMS.’
In order to offer the service on the mobile, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed up a deal with RealNetworks, the global emoticonSMS service provider with about 800.3-million subscribers throughout the world.
Mr.Jay Kim, Vice-President (APAC and Music Business) of RealNetworks said, “Subscribers will be able to choose from up to 4,000 emoticons across 5000 themes.”
“It EmoticonSMS) is another value-added service offered by Real that makes traditional SMS more engaging and fun.” Mr. Kim added.
When the subscriber signs up for this new service, the text messages sent through the service automatically gets converted into emoticons based on keyword recognition technology.
This new service would be made available by the end of the year.
BSNL, which is one of the largest telecom service providers in India, expects that the total number of subscribers, through this new service, would reach till 39-millions by the end of this fiscal.
RealNetworks also entice its huge clientele by offering some other services which include Music on Demand, Games, Video, Personalisation features (such as Ringtones, RBTs and Multimedia Ringback Services) as well as messaging services
