Big industry players expected to give Bengal Leads a miss

Big industry players expected to give Bengal Leads a miss Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool government's Bengal Leads Conclave commenced at the industrial town of Haldia on Tuesday, but many believe it is going to be another damp squib.

Narendra Modi's recently concluded mega industrial summit `Vibrant Gujarat' drew big names like Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata and Cyrus Mistry; but these big industry players are expected to give Bengal Leads a miss, mainly due to West Bengal government's controversial land-acquisition policy and the soaring violence against big industries.

Tamluk MP Subhendu Adhikary, who is also the chairman of Haldia Development Authority, admitted that the three-day event would not be able to attract big names.

When contacted, Adhikary said, "We will have to disappoint you if you look for names like Cyrus Mistry or Mukesh Ambani. You are likely to see industrialists from Bengal only."

ITC spokesperson confirmed that ITC chairman Y C Deveshwar would not be able to attend the Bengal Leads summit because he was in Delhi to participate in the CII-ITC event; while Ambuja Realty chairman Harsh Neotia said he could not attent the summit as he was studying at Harvard.

Bengal Leads' venue, Haldia, hit headlines last year AGB-led LDA had to wrap up its operations due to alleged bad business environment, militant trade unionism and poor law & order.
