Ben & Jerry’s announces New Ice Cream Flavor to Raise Awareness about Climate Change
As part of a campaign to raise awareness on climate change, Ben & Jerry's has introduced a new ice cream flavor on Wednesday. The flavor, Save Our Swirled, may help earth.
The new flavor comprises a raspberry ice cream mixed with marshmallow and raspberry swirls and chunks of dark and white fudge ice cream cone. Every box of this flavor has a link to sign a petition in which world leaders have been asked to work towards 100% clean energy by 2050.
"Our goal is for international leaders to work towards 100% Clean Energy by 2050. This ambitious goal is in line with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC's) stated need for the elimination of all carbon pollution within the next 85 years", said the company.
Ben & Jerry's has acknowledged the fact that ice cream industry is a carbon-intensive industry. The ice cream company said every pint of ice cream made by them adds around two pounds of carbon dioxide into the air.
Therefore, earlier this year, the ice cream has come up with 'Save Our Swirled' campaign. It has joined hands with Tesla Motors to make an emission-free ice cream truck. It is expected that in the tour, three million signatures will be collected. These signatures will then be presented to world leaders before Paris' Climate Summit takes place.
It is not the first time for Ben & Jerry's to come up with an initiative on an issue. In 2009, the company favored gay marriage and renamed Chubby Hubby to 'Hubby Hubby'. In order to bring focus on marriage equity, the ice cream company renamed its Apple Pie flavor as 'Apple-y Ever After'. The new flavor is now available in US stores and scoop shops. By the end of 2015, the flavor will arrive in Asia and by September in Europe.
