Baba Ramdev sends relief material to flood victims of Bihar
Patna, Sep 9 : In a bid to help the flood victims in Bihar, Baba Ramdev, the self made Yoga Guru, flagged off 25 trucks loaded with relief material here today.
Food, clothes and shelter materials carried by the trucks would be distributed to the affected people by his workers.
He informed that his yoga school is running 20 such camps in the flood-affected areas and has provided food for almost 40,000 people.
"We have set up almost 25 camps in the flood affected areas. We have arranged for food for almost 30,000- 40,000 people. There are some places where no rescue team has reached yet, like Ahmedabad (a hamlet in Bihar). Our teams have reached there," said Baba Ramdev.
Flood waters in Bihar have been receding over the past week in some areas, exposing bloated bodies and rotting carcasses caught in bamboo groves and bushes.
The floods have displaced over three million people in Bihar, destroyed 100,000 hectares (250,000 acres) of farmland and killed at least 90 people.
The Kosi River, which originates in Nepal, burst a dam last month and unleashed the worst flooding in Bihar in 50 years.
Last week, authorities airdropped leaflets to villagers appealing for thousands of people remaining in their homes to evacuate as heavy rains risked more flooding.
The Government has evacuated over 9 lakh people already, but there are still thousands who want to be evacuated. (ANI)
