Authorities to act against those involved in Maharashtra irrigation scamPrithviraj Chavan, the Chief Minister of the western state of Maharashtra has assured that the authorities will take actions against anyone who is found to be involved in the Maharashtra irrigation scam.

“If someone writes somebody's name, somebody can tomorrow write my name or your name, does this mean it is confirmed? But I'll certainly look into it,” Mr Chavan said.

The documents confiscated by the income tax officials showed that bribes worth Rs. 44 crores was paid for a contract worth nearly Rs. 280 crores in the state. A list of names is entered for bribes that have been paid in the pages taken by the income tax department during a raid in Kolhapur.

Another hand written document shows the names of the leaders along with the amount paid to them and the amount due to paid to them as illegal payments. The list is topped by the name, 'AP' and 'Dada' with a total of 27.5 crores.

Activist Medha Patkar has said that AP stands for Ajit Pawar and his followers often call him dada. She has been demanding an inquiry into the irrigation scam in the state.
