Adidas and ‘Parley for the Oceans’ to Jointly Work On Ocean plastic Debris

German shoe-maker Adidas has been known for its world class sportswear, clothing and accessories. But now the show maker has recently entered into a partnership with Parley for the Oceans that aim to end water pollution caused due to debris in oceans.

Both through their partnership created a shoe concept that will be made of yarns and filaments recycled fro ocean waste. They will also use parts of illegal deep-sea gillnets that were recovered.

Adidas said in a statement that the shoe concept is just a sign of the commitment towards preservation of oceans. The consumer-ready ocean plastic products will most probably be revealed later this year.

Parley for the Oceans, conservation group partnering with Adidas stated that through this step they want to raise awareness among people about debris or wastes that are found in the oceans.

According to UNESCO, in 2006, there were approximately 46,000 floating plastics found in every square mile of ocean.

Experts said that plastic debris is also responsible for the deaths of over a million seabirds and 100, 000 marine mammals every year.

The project was announced by Adidas' Eric Liedtke and Parley for the Oceans founder Cyrill Gutsch last week at a Parley for the Oceans event hosted by the United Nations.

The gill nets used to make shoes were collected by Parley for the Ocean partner Sea Shepherd. The vessel spent nearly 110 days to track an illegal stealing vessel.

Gutsch said, "At Parley for the Oceans, we want to establish oceans as a fundamental part of debate around climate change. Our objective is to boost public awareness and to inspire new collaborations that can contribute to protect and preserve the oceans".
