A 7-year-old who was shot in the head during what authorities said was a suspected murder-suicide in North Carolina was reported in critical condition on Monday.

The Charlotte (N. C.) Observer has reported that Destiny Minter, the only survivor of the shooting in Dallas, N. C., which left four people dead, was being treated at Carolinas Medical Center.

The newspaper further reported that Police has said 25-year-old Austen Blake Minter, 25, shot and killed Tracy Hedgepath, 24, and two of the couple's children late Thursday or early Friday and then turned the gun on himself.

Police also said that Hedgepath was several months pregnant.

The dead children were Austin Minster II, 6, and Serenity Minter, 3.

The Observer also reported that Minter was charged in 2004 with assaulting Hedgepath and as sentenced to two years probation. Hedgepath took out a protective order against him, and he was convicted of violating it twice in 2008. (With Inputs from Agencies)
