6.6 magnitude earthquake hits Japan

London [UK], Oct. 21 : A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of around 6.6 has rocked western Japan on Friday.

However, officials said there is no tsunami warning, reports the Independent.

The Meteorological Agency said the earthquake occurred Friday at 2:10 p.m. (0510 GMT) in Japan's western prefecture of Tottori, about 700 kilometers (430 miles) west of Tokyo, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles) underground.

There was no immediate report of injuries or damage from the quake.

This earthquake comes five and a half years since a 9.0 undersea earthquake cause a tsunami and a meltdown at the Fukashima power plant which resulted in the deaths of over 15,000 people. (ANI)
