3 MIT Robots handle Bar

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) unveiled a new quality of three robots, which is that they can work as a team to handle a bar. One of them will open beer and the other two will take orders from guests and serve them. These robots have also been found very useful in places in disaster area or hospital.

The MIT's computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL) Laboratory has programmed robots to develop beverage skills. Researchers said that they were not looking out to train robots into bartending. Researchers said that there is a need to have robots that can be prove useful in disaster areas, high pressure environments, circumstances of search and rescue.

Researchers said, "Almost all real world problems have some form of uncertainty baked into them. As a result, there is a huge range of areas where these planning approaches could be of help".

For the research, the team took a PR2 robot and two TurtleBot robots and made them work in a bar set up. One of the TurtleBot was head of taking orders and delivering them accurately and the PR2 was handling the bartending work.

Researchers said that they have developed complex planning algorithms so that robots are able to interpret their location, status and behavior.
