2015, 2016 could see record-breaking temperatures

As per a new report from the UK Met Office, record-breaking temperatures throughout the world could be observed in 2015 and 2016. According to the report, natural climate cycles in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans are overturning and will add to the strong global warming as a result of human activities.

This will lead to changed weather patterns across the world together with more heat waves; however, there is a possibility that the United Kingdom will see cooler summers in reality.

According to Professor Adam Scaife, who led the Met Office analysis, “We will look back on this period as an important turning point. That is why we are emphasising it, because there are so many big changes happening at once. This year and next year are likely to be at, or near, record levels of warming”.

Last year, the record for the warmest year was broken. Russia, China, Australia and areas of South America were hit by record-breaking temperatures. However, in the face of greenhouse gas emissions trapping more heat on Earth continuously, the last decade saw comparatively slow warming of temperatures, also called a “pause” in climate change.

Global warming had not taken a break at all in reality. In its place, as a result of natural climate cycles, more of the captured heat was stored in the oceans. At this moment, the Met Office report is saying that it seems that the pause in increasing air temperatures has ended and the rate of global warming will speed up in the future.
