ZTE India aims to double its revenue in 2014

ZTE India aims to double its revenue in 2014The Indian arm of Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp. aims to nearly double its revenue from India operations in 2014, thanks to projected revival of growth in the sector.

ZTE India Chief Executive Xu Dejun on Friday announced that the company was targeting to generate revenue of $800 million during 2014 from India. Till October this year, the company generated $400 million in revenues. It is hopeful that the figure could jump to $500 million by the end of current year.

At a press event in New Delhi, Dejun told reporters that they expected telecom companies to spend more after the next year's general elections.

Speaking on the topic, he said, "Telecom companies expect clarity (in rules) after the elections and by then, the auction would have also been completed. Telecom companies have already started preparing and we expect next year to be good."

Some telecom operators shut operations while many others cut their operations after the Supreme Court scrapped a total of 122 telecom permits around a year back, citing corruption.

But more clarity and new permits following the upcoming auction are expected to revive growth in the sector. India, the second biggest telecom market after China, is expected to become the second biggest smartphone market too in 2014.
