BMW’s U.S. all-electric car sales surge 63 per cent during Q1 2024

German luxury car maker BMW Group recorded a substantial surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales in the United States during the first quarter of 2024, underscoring its commitment to sustainable mobility. Amidst a backdrop of evolving consumer preferences and heightened environmental consciousness, BMW Group, comprising both BMW and Mini brands, has successfully positioned itself as a frontrunner in the EV revolution.

The Q1 period of this year witnessed a remarkable uptick in the manufacturer’s overall vehicle sales, totaling 90,844 units in the U.S. alone. This figure marks a notable 1.2 per cent year-over-year increase. However, it is the surge in all-electric car (BEV) sales that stole the spotlight, soaring by an impressive 63 per cent. This increase underscores a significant shift towards eco-conscious transportation choices among consumers, signaling a crucial moment in the automotive industry's trajectory.

Fueling this growth, BMW's BEV segment witnessed a remarkable uptick in sales, hitting the mark of 10,713 units during the three-month period under review. This represents an important 63 per cent jump year-over-year. Notably, the BEV segment's contribution to the brand's total volume increased to 12.7 per cent, showcasing a substantial upgrading from 8.0 per cent in Q1 2023. Among the group’s acclaimed electric models, including the i4, i5, i7, and the innovative iX, the iX emerged as a frontrunner with sales increasing 25 per cent to settle at 2,945 units.

While precise stats for other electric models remain bundled with their ICE counterparts, the standout i3 model made a peculiar mark with a solitary sale in the concerned quarter. However, electric sales figures of the Mini brand are regrettably absent from the report, leaving room for speculation about the brand’s contribution to the group’s electrification drive.

Reflecting on 2023, the German manufacturer's strides in the EV domain are evident, with more than 45,000 fully-electric vehicles sold in the U.S. market, marking a threefold jump from the previous year. This growth accounted for 12.5 per cent of the total sales volume, underlining a tangible shift towards sustainable mobility. At the same time, it reaffirms the automobile giant’s position as a leader in the EV market.

To sup up, BMW's surge in electric car sales in the United States not only reflects the brand's dedication to environmental responsibility but also heralds a new era of sustainable mobility, where innovation converges with meticulous consumer choices to shape a greener tomorrow.
